How can I prevent Headlice and Nits?

There is no guaranteed method of preventing a head lice infection.

However, there are several precautions that can be taken to minimise the risk and prevent a head lice and nit infestation:

·    check hair regularly for headlice with a special fine toothed headlice or nit comb

·    check hair regularly for nits which indicate live head lice.

·    avoid physical hair contact with a person who has head lice

·    tie long hair up or braid to minimise hair to hair contact

·   do not share combs, brushes, hats, scarves, ribbons, or other personal items

·   examine members of your family who have had close contact with a person infected with head lice.
